In this article: A complete guide to the Yelli Training Library - how to access and incorporate ready-to-go training content into your own Yelli account.
Creating a training program for your restaurant is no small task. In fact, many restaurants don’t even have an official training program - instead new team members are just thrown into the fire until they can be on the floor alone.
Even though that sounds crazy, it’s actually understandable. Running a restaurant is time-consuming, difficult work. Your priority is serving your guests, and keeping your doors open.
Although having well-trained and well-informed staff helps you to do that, it can feel like an impossible task to build, execute, and maintain an organized training program.
That’s where we come in 🙂
We designed Yelli as a tool to help restaurant teams train and communicate. Among other features, the idea is that you can have one place to store and organize all of your training information.
That’s great, right? Well, if you already have training information to store and organize it is! But what if you don’t, and also don’t have the spare time to create everything?
We created a library of templated training information that you can simply copy and paste from. The Yelli Training Library includes content for multiple restaurant formats, and multiple departments within each format. It gives users everything they need to quickly fill in the blanks of their new Yelli account, and start training faster.
In this blog we’re going to give you a complete guide to using the Yelli Training Library, from setting up your account to onboarding team members.
To access the training library, you will need to login to your Yelli account.
If you don’t have an account yet, create one here or ask your management to invite you to an existing account.
Once logged in, open the dropdown menu by clicking on your profile image in the top right corner.
Select “Training Material Library” from the dropdown menu. The library will open in a new window.
Pro Tip:
For easiest use, use the desktop browser and open your windows side-by-side to easily see both the Library and your Yelli account.
Now that you have the library open and you’re ready to start building, it’s time to find the content you need. Copy and paste into your Yelli account, then make changes to customize for your team like particular scripts or processes.
The Library is organized first by dining styles; fine dining, full service casual, and counter service. We’ve outlined FOH job roles like servers, bartenders, hosts, and barbacks for each of the following:
Steps of service for team members to follow when interacting with guests.
General uniform guidelines including clothing, aprons, and standard grooming requirements.
Daily cleaning checklists and restocking duties.
Day-by-day training plans for newly hired team members to follow.
The last tab of the Library is the miscellaneous section. This is where you will find content that is not specific to different service styles, but that all restaurants could benefit from. Here’s what’s included:
Use our floorplan creator tool to train the team on table and seat numbers.
General health and safety guidelines every restaurant can use, like handwashing and spill procedures.
General procedures that every restaurant might need, like how to answer the phone or box takeout orders.
Our video library gives you links to high-quality server training videos from our friends at Real Server Training.
It’s really as simple as copy and paste. Pick the content that you need, and easily paste it into the appropriate section of your Yelli account.
Once you onboard your team, they will be able to review the training content you’ve built for them all from their smart device. Plus, if you update it they will be notified.
Building a training program for your restaurant doesn’t have to be so difficult. Our goal is to help full service restaurants all over the world streamline and simplify their training processes, while still improving team knowledge and expanding their skills.
The best training starts with the best content. Sometimes building that content can seem like a daunting task, and getting started is the hardest part. Our Training Materials Library is a tool to help make that process easier, giving you templates and starting points for the bulk of your training content.
Be sure to login to your Yelli account now to start using the Library, or sign up your restaurant now to get your first 2 weeks free.
